Michaela’s Kickoff

Hey, Michaela here! You may have heard about my experience as an infant in the Dominican Republic. I decided to dive deeper by asking my parents for some more information on what actually took place.

My parents decided to go on a 1st anniversary trip to the Dominican Republic when I was just a month old. When asking my pediatrician for advice on whether or not to keep their long planned travel reservations, he responded, “Are you looking for an excuse NOT to go? She will be just fine”. So, off we went!

My mom didn’t know that by taking their first child to a tropical beach that my dad would want to put Baby Michaela on a surfboard. She of course found that out soon enough. After my dad tested the water he took me out on the board while my mom took some pictures. If you look at my face you can probably see that I don’t look very pleased, but I’m also not crying so it turned out to be ok for all of us.

The craziest thing they did on the trip wasn’t standing me on a surfboard in the water, but feeding ME to an iguana!! Okay, they didn’t actually feed me to an iguana, they just stood me within two feet of one. Face to face.

As I was trying to wrap up this story, I found out that my parents LEFT ME on the beach!! They left me in a little blue bed (yes my mom remembered the color of the bed) while they went jet skiing! I definitely understand the feeling of missing out on fun due to a small child, but seriously??!! Okay, in their defense, it was a private resort and there was literally no one around besides the guy helping with the kayaks and jet skiis. AND, my mom said that they didn’t go far enough away where they couldn’t see me. They “watched” me the whole time. Sure. So comforting.

I’m afraid that if I ask for any more details of my first vacation I might find out that I had a twin sister that they left on the island, or that I used to be cute and calm until the shark came. So I’ll just end it here. Surfs Up! – Michaela
